My folks were over last weekend. I found myself having to stop mid sentence and define or rephrase a word or expression when ever I talked to my mom. I didn't realize how much of my daughters fandoms words, acronyms, slang and expressions have made their way into my own vocabulary.
I will be updating this list of “words you should know” from time to time. If you see any you know missing please e-mail me or write me on the aParently FaceBook page and I 'll add them in. It is also possible that some words may mean different things in various areas. Some differences are from “normal” world definitions but will often mean something quite different. I'm not interested in putting the “normal” definition on here, just the one that would apply to fandoms. Slang changes so this will be an on going project.
Also, if you do send me words I'm missing be sure to let me know if you copied it and what your source is so I can include it and not plagiarize. Thank you!
I will be including some words that some parents may find offensive or even scary. Fandoms are like anything in life. There's a positive side and a negative side. Some folks will intend to throw it all away and ban their kids from all of it. But if this is the case then one should also ban their kids from just about everything cause there is a negative side and what some may call a perverse side to everything. But I don't recommend that. This is just another reason to learn more about and be involved in what your children are interested in.
So here are (some of) the Words You Should Know.
